Law.com Pro Webinar

Byline: Gina Passarella Cipriani

It is no secret that over the past decade – accelerated by the pandemic – Am Law 200 firms have been moving away from traditional partner compensation models such as pure lockstep, and shifted their share systems considerably. As the recently-released Pacesetter Research Innovation in Partner Compensation in Law has found, however, no one model dominates today, even as a growing number fall under the deceptively simple label of “hybrid models”. Moreover, how firms approach their partner compensation models varies tremendously, depending on which target is first in their sights: Short-term revenue growth? Lateral hires? Client relationship institutionalization? What was once a static and fairly predictable element of law firm organization and management has become a key lever in firm strategy. And adding further complexity is the growing awareness of the importance of managing partner incentives, and their impact on other firm initiatives such as associate development, succession planning, or advanced technology adoption. While approaches may differ significantly, this Pacesetter Research report found one common denominator among the most successful models: they are anchored firmly in overall firm strategy, and specifically tied to firm goals through actively-monitored metrics.

Join us for the Law.com Pro June webinar where our team of analysts and journalists will dig into these issues and many more. Audience questions are welcome and encouraged.
