Connecting Compensation to Culture: Which Comes First?

Law firm partner compensation plans are designed to reflect the partners’ values and priorities. Market changes often drive different priorities. As law firms reach different inflection points in their growth trajectory, partner values may change. When partner compensation falls out of step with the market or with partner values, there’s a cultural rift. Partners have to choose what’s best for themselves or what’s best for the firm.
